Spending a week visiting the castles and gardens of the South of England, the Lakes of Italy or sampling the delights of the Champagne region of France may sound idyllic, but not necessarily if you are travelling without expert guidance. Wouldn't it be nice to have a travelling companion who knew his stuff, someone to take away the angst of what not to miss, perhaps what should be missed(!), and get you there comfortably? Who could wow you with his passion for and knowledge of plants, gardens and all things horticultural? Well, look no further: Adam Hodge is that man.
Adam has been involved in horticulture for more than thirty years. During that time he has worked as the Manager for the Duke of Marlborough's Blenheim Palace Garden Centre located close to Oxford. He also spent a number of years working at Syon Park, the London home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland, whose country seat is the well-known Alnwick Castle. For the last twenty-five years, Adam has run his own business, Oxford Botanica, which is, in his own words, "totally engrossed in the delights of tropical plants in all their beauty." The company provides plants to private homes, tropical gardens and indoor swimming pools in the South of England.
Adam is the man who can take care of all your travel worries, from planning the itinerary, making the appropriate bookings and organising accommodation. If you are looking for an adventure with a little difference, with a travel guide as a companion you can trust, who understands the importance of comfort and cuisine, and with an excellent knowledge of English, French and Italian castles and gardens, then Adam is your man.
Recent travelling companions have this to say about Adam:
- "On a trip with Adam to Chateau Resmisnil in France, the former private home of the British designer Laura Ashley, Adam proved his worth. In addition to his expertise on chateaux, his knowledge of French wines was outstanding! He knew just what to order with each delicious meal. His bon hommie was a delight and his sense of humour raised more than a few laughs."
- "On a recent trip to one of England's finest National Horticultural Society gardens, Wisley, in Surrey, Adam impressed me with his extensive knowledge, rolling Latin names off the end of his tongue like the true expert he is."
- "Adam's natural modesty meant that many of us knew him only as an active member of his church and someone dedicated to his charitable work. It was only after getting to know him better that we have learned of his extraordinary knowledge of plants and places!"
Adam specializes in trips for one to three individuals rather than larger groups, as he feels these can be better tailored to suit specific tastes and needs.
